The Australian Vietnamese Women's Association Inc. (AVWA), a community organisation provides assistance to the Vietnamese-Australian community across Metropolitan Melbourne through a number of services: counselling for gambling, drug and alcohol addiction; support services for victims of family violence; community education and nationally accredited training; staff supported playgroups; home care packages etc. (Visit www.avwa.org.au/en/)

Community Legal Education (CLE) refers to a wide range of activities designed to empower the community by educating them on their rights and responsibilities; where to seek advice and assistance; and how they can navigate the legal terrain. CLE seeks to prevent legal problems and disputes from spiraling out of control by seeking to address the problem at the earliest opportunity.

Brimbank Melton Community Legal Centre (BMCLC) assists clients with summary crime matters in circumstances where the client is ineligible for either a grant of legal aid or the duty lawyer service.

Brimbank Melton Community Legal Centre (BMCLC) is a generalist community legal centre. One of our largest practice areas is Infringements and recently Lachlan Tom (solicitor) assisted a single mother who had numerous traffic fines. An outline of her case follows.

Well done to Greta Haywood (Family Violence Coordinator with the Brimbank Melton Community Legal Centre) who gave an engaging presentation on Family Violence to our English-language students. The presentation was well-attended and highly informative. Greta ought to be commended for her efforts to push ahead with the presentation despite suffering a broken foot.

Brimbank Melton Community Legal Centre (BMCLC), a program of Comm Unity Plus Services Ltd, received a visit from Anna Beesley of the Victorian Law Reform Commission (VLRC) in August this year.

Brimbank Melton Community Legal Centre, in partnership with Tenants Victoria, is conducting pop-up tenancy clinics to local renters in Brimbank and Melton throughout April and May to provide advice to local renters. The clinics will be open in St Albans, Melton and Sunshine

There has been a steady demand for Divorce advice and assistance which we continue to deliver via our Divorce workshops, held quarterly and conducted in English and Vietnamese.
