The commUnity+ Legal Program supports local crime prevention through participating in the Victorian Government’s Empowering Communities Project Action Group for Melton.

The Brimbank Melton Community Legal Centre is a program of commUnity+. Our Principal Lawyer, Martin Ha was invited to speak as a member of the Empowering Communities Project Action Group at the Honourable Natalie Hutchins, Minister of Crime Prevention’s announcement last Friday about the Empowering Communities initiative.

The Minister announced $700,000 in grants for community-led prevention initiatives to improve security and safety in local areas including Brimbank, Hume and Melton.

“We believe this initiative will help to prevent crime by supporting projects that provide access to education and employment pathways and access to support services for insecure housing and homelessness, family violence, mental health issues, addiction and financial distress.” - Martin Ha, Principal Lawyer of commUnity+ Brimbank Melton Community Legal Centre

“commUnity+ recognises the importance of being a part of this Project Action Group where the legal services provided by the Brimbank Melton Community Legal Centre complement other services to improve the safety, security and overall well-being of people living in local communities.” - Tracey Gaudry, Chief Executive Officer of commUnity+

commUnity+ thanks the Honourable Natalie Hutchins, Minister for Crime Prevention and the Department of Justice and Community Safety for sponsoring and funding the Empowering Communities initiative. We extend our thanks to the Melton City Council for establishing the Melton Empowering Communities Project Action Group, and to the members for their valuable work and contributions.
